Reflection

In my paper I wanted to bring awareness to the ways that humans impact the environment. I also wanted to share ways in which we can all help the environment. Overall, I enjoyed writing this essay and i’m glad that I was able to choose a topic that i am passionate about. The process began with the mind map, which made it much more convenient to start my draft. I included several credible sources in my paper which allowed me to cover the topic well. I appreciated how I was able to talk about my personal connection with nature and the environment. Surprisingly, I found it pretty fun transforming my paper into an e-portfolio. It was as if I was bringing my paper to life by turning it into a super creative web page.

Over the course of the semester, I would say I have learned a lot. I am more knowledgeable on certain topics including the race for equality. It was interesting to read accounts from historical figures who took a stand in society such as MLK, Bhutto and Douglass. In my opinion, the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell was one of the most interesting books we read in comp 105. It allowed me to think in a different way and to have a different perspective on things. In general, this class encouraged me to think much deeper. I also learned a lot about activism and its importance in today’s society. Soul of a Citizen by Paul Rogat Loeb was also a reading that I enjoyed in the class. This book helped me understand our role as citizens and how to be an active citizen. I featured this book in my final project because the author made some very interesting points that seemed to fit well with my topic. Loeb encourages us to not feel powerless and useless, but rather make our lives count by taking part in society. This relates to my topic on how we can be environmental activists.
